Does it pay off to invest in a professional CV?

Have you thought about paying a professional CV writer to create a killer CV for you but you are in doubt if that makes sense?

It is actually quite simple.

Let’s do the math

The average dive professional earns ca. 833 EUR per month and works around 260 days per year. In high season more days in low season less days of work.

This makes an earning of ca. 10.000 EUR per year.

10k EUR/year
————– = 38 EUR salary per day
260d/year

This means the average dive professional earns around 38 EUR per day.

A professionally written CV for dive professionals costs around 35 EUR.

If you shorten your job search with a professional CV by AS LITTLE AS ONE DAY, your investment has already paid off.

This is because you will earn the 35 EUR investment back in your first day of employment.

This is not taking into account the additional service you often get with a professional CV.

The benefits are obvious:

  • Greater impact of your CV
  • Higher chance to get invited to a job interview
  • Operators keep your CV for later even if they don’t have any vacancy right now
  • Better job opportunities

Doubts

Some might say that your CV should only be created by yourself.

If we are honest everyone gets help from somewhere with their CV. Either for the wording, the formatting or the like.

So why not asking someone who does exactly that every day.

It’s like learning how to dive. You want to have the best dive instructor because they do exactly what you are after every day.

Also, if we are all judged by the ability to create a CV it would be very much the same as the cartoon from Albert Einstein.

That does not look fair does it?

We all have different qualities and if it is not how to write a CV that’s fine but you should still get the chance to get a dive job where you can use your personal qualities.

Also, pretty much all industries I have checked out have professional services offering people help with their career.

CV services, cover letter, online profiles.. all that is already considered “normal” in any other service industry of the world.

And diving is certainly a service industry too.
